Happy (mid) April! The month is, unbelievably, more than half over and I'm preparing for JordanCon, the Wheel of Time convention in Atlanta, GA while also attempting to squeeze in some writing time. I've been working on a semi-secret project and finally got to write a scene I'd been envisioning for years. I can't tell you how exciting it was to write, and hopefully it will be just as exciting to read one day. After a lot of editing, 'cause first drafts.
Anyway, it's official: The winner of the poll for which fairy tale retelling I should read and review first is CINDER by Marissa Meyer. CINDER took the lead over SHERWOOD by Meagan Spooner pretty quickly, and poor Maid Marian just never could quite catch up. That's fine, though. I'm sure we'll get to her in good time.
CINDER is an older book, the first in a series called THE LUNAR CHRONICLES, originally published in 2012. Many of you have probably left me in the dust and already read it, so my review might be old news, but I love to see what others think of my favorites stories and to compare thoughts. So as I'm reading and reviewing, please feel free to comment along. If you'd like to read CINDER with me, follow the links to buy it for yourself and we can be reading frens.
The description is as follows:
Humans and androids crowd the raucous streets of New Beijing. A deadly plague ravages the population. From space, a ruthless lunar people watch, waiting to make their move. No one knows that Earth's fate hinges on one girl. . . .
Cinder, a gifted mechanic, is a cyborg. She's a second-class citizen with a mysterious past, reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister's illness. But when her life becomes intertwined with the handsome Prince Kai's, she suddenly finds herself at the center of an intergalactic struggle, and a forbidden attraction. Caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal, she must uncover secrets about her past in order to protect her world's future.
I am pretty excited about what I've been assured is a fun read, but I'll judge for myself when I start reading sometime after the crazy that is JordanCon!
